Dangerous Guidance

People speak up to twenty thousand words a day.
We all give and receive advice all the time.

Why this topic? Well, you could receive poor advice on a stock tip, and that could hurt your wallet. You could receive wrong directions, and you could get lost.

However, there is counsel that is far more destructive to us.

Many Christians today go to counselors who are not led by God's counsel for their own lives. Their understanding of God is seriously flawed. They do not believe the authority of God's word. They do not get their counsel from God. This is ungodly counsel. Psalm 1 warns God's people not to walk in the counsel of the ungodly.
A shingle that reads "Counselor" or "Therapist", or that has the stamp of approval from the government does not mean that God's approval is upon it. Even nice, well meaning people give ungodly counsel. Yes, our brothers and sisters in Christ often give ungodly counsel.

IF YOU RECEIVE COUNSEL THAT IS CONTRARY TO GOD'S WORD, THEN IT IS UNGODLY COUNSEL, PERIOD.
PSALM 1 clearly teaches us that God will not bless ungodly counsel, regardless of the intention.
What can we do to protect ourselves from ungodly counsel? Study the counsel of God. "Your word O Lord is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
